Tastes and Traditions

Torraca is a land in Cilento rich of gifts, dominating the sea,  like a beautiful bride. Lying on the slopes leading to the beaches, has a sweet hilly placing; the perspective on the sea is radiant. In front of its sight lies, in the variety of its colours, the Gulf of Policastro.

The gifts of Torraca are the primordial energies where the ancients put the roots of the world and civilization. Air, water, land, fire. But Torraca gave these gifts a gentle style, infact they don’t tire the soul, they don’t scratch it, they don’t engrave  the borders on the disasters suffered through history. They are gentle gifts, similar to the souls of its inhabitants. The Torrachesi are friendly. Their habits are simple and laborious.

The land of Torraca is the Mediterranean bush in the whole range of its colours- it’s the land of wheat, vines and olive trees, of woods and fagots, of chestnuts and mushrooms, of tomatoes and figues, of sorbs and nuts, myrtles and brooms in love. This land is a chiselled stone by which are drawn 500 portals, round archs  which enrich the houses rebuilt after the French fire.

This land is represented by its paths and ilexes, its green terraces and cottages, its mule-tracks, its slopes, giving an answer to the breathing need. The water is for Torraca the millenarian movement of springs ( there are a lot, even for medical use) which dig its body in secret, by renewing it.

Its air is the unending windy circulation that leaven and dry, helping the farmers. Its fire is sunny life  sweetened by the winds on the terraces and in the woods, whereas land is waked by the sea embracing. A land of primordial energies which preserves the ancient vital spring-waters leading human race to the light.

These are signs of power and simplicity. Asses,  cows, wild boars,  pigs,  horses,  sheep,  dogs, the Cilento goat have here their official presidious. There is an art of taste, genuine university, able to dialoge with the civil world by offering precious food resources which don’t fear any comparisons. Here is the best of smell and taste, kept in the most ancient and extraordinary way, environmental pureness, ancient hearth toward the future.
