The Mayor  and the Municipal Administration of Torraca have decided to focus on the environment safeguard and the use of renewable energy.

They have therefore began a series of initiatives on the environmental  themes and on the using of renewable energy.

The project began with the institution of a university consort named “ Cilento e Vallo di Diano”; it was in partnership with the  II University of Napoli , which started a 1st level master about “ Environmental and Technical Legislation of the Renewable Energy” to which have taken part 40 graduated students from all over Italy.

Then was started, with the partnership of  II University of Napoli, a degree course  in “ Political Sciences: International Cooperation for Environment and Energy” with 128 students.

Continuing the project on renewable energy three photovoltaic town installations have been realised for a total amount of about 150 kw, thus rendering the town self-sufficient for public needs; it has also been realized a factory which will produce phototovoltaic modules and will  do research in the same field.

By the help of a factory in Cilento, “Elettronica Gelbison srl”, it has been realised a “guinnes project”: Torraca is the first town in the world which possesses a LED lighting public system which has replaced the previous one. The “Elettronica Gelbison” has patented “ the Torraca lantern”. From that moment onward  this innovative and well cared town receives the visit of empreneurs, researchers, visitors, administrators from all over Italy interested to the effectiveness of such a system.
